What we do

A word from The Reed Family

It was the wish of Ken Reed, founder of Tenaquip Limited, that a foundation be created to assist registered charities in Canada and abroad to help meet their charitable objectives. The Tenaquip Foundation was founded in November of 2006, it exists to provide relief primarily in the areas of medical research, hospitals, children’s welfare and humanitarian causes.

Since its operations began in 2006-2007 the Tenaquip Foundation has given out over $10,000,000 to Canadians in need and has also taken part in several international projects.

A cause particularly close to our heart is helping those living with ALS and ALS research, for this reason the foundation has become involved with The Montreal Neurological Hospital as well as ALS societies in a number of provinces. 2014 will mark the opening of the Ken Reed Motor Neuro Research Unit, a research lab several years in the making, dedicated to unlocking the mysteries of neurological diseases.

Several other hospitals have been benefactors of the Tenaquip Foundation as well; The Montreal Children’s Hospital, The Royal Victoria and the Toronto Hospital.

The issue of homelessness is indeed one of the focuses of The Tenaquip Foundation. Ken Reed and his father before him were longstanding supporters of The Old Brewery Mission and The Salvation Army. We are committed to organizations such as these, thus several of their events have now been named after our Dad or Tenaquip. The Ken Reed Golf tournament for instance raises well over $100,000 every year for The Old Brewery Mission.

Another project dear to us is The Madagascar School Project. What started as a small donation to help construct a school for 30 children has blossomed into a project that now teaches and feeds more than 500 children per day. We have 475 primary students, 75 secondary students, approximately 40 students enrolled in the apprenticeship classes as well as a staff of 30 plus. Our gardens assist in providing necessary food. Our Doctors clinic is now profitable and we are presently working on exchanging a day or two with a dentist from a known orphanage in the area.

We, the Reed family are very proud of The Tenaquip Foundation and the legacy our father has left. Being able to be give back to our communities has given us all tremendous joy. Being involved with the Foundation has given us a purpose like none other. Tenaquip and all of its employees work hard to have the profits to allow us to continue our goal in giving back to our communities. Ken Reed would be so incredibly proud to know that the company that he founded close to 50 years ago has such an incredible impact in so many communities worldwide.
